This image is the types of bulb holder.
There is a black hot wire which touches the tab-shaped contact inside the socket. The contact touches the tip of the bulb.
Electricity flows through the hot
wire into the brass tab in the center. Then it flows through the threaded base of the bulb into the the socket and out through the return wire.
As long as the tab-shaped contact and base of the bulb hold tightly, it remains corrosion free.
Usually the tab-shaped contact wears out. If it occurs, you can re-bend it to make the socket work again.
